2ND ANNUAL “SUMMER SOIREE” A
HUGE SUCCESS
BENEFITING RESEARCH IN MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Stony Brook, NY, August 28, 2007 –
Summer Chic
was the theme of the evening as the Summer Soiree committee was
joined by almost 500 guests who dined and danced the evening
away, Thursday August 9, 2007 at Carlyle on the Green in
Bethpage State Park. All were there to support the National
Pediatric MS Center at
Stony
Brook
University
Medical
Center
where vital medical research is being conducted to find the
answers to MS.
The National Pediatric MS
Center at Stony Brook was the first-of-its-kind in the United States
to focus solely on children and adolescents with MS.
Our center has set the standard for
pediatric MS care and offers optimal medical and psychosocial
support to children and their families.
“Funds
raised at this event will help the Pediatric MS Center advance a
research program that has the potential to make a huge
difference in the lives of all individuals with MS,” said Dr.
Lauren Krupp, Director of the Pediatric MS Center, who is part
of a Steering Committee of six Pediatric MS Centers of
Excellence across the country supported by the National Multiple
Sclerosis Society.
“I am convinced this research will
help to uncover the mysteries of multiple sclerosis” stated Dr.
Krupp.
The National Pediatric MS
Center also sponsors a Teen Adventure Weekend Camp for
adolescents with MS. For many teens diagnosed with MS, this camp
is the first time that they are able to connect with another
child with MS.
One mother wrote a letter of
gratitude after her son attended camp last year in which she
stated, “camp is the best thing that happened to (my son) last
year.” Children who attended the camp this summer were on hand
at the Soiree to tell their stories and help solicit funds for
the camp.
